Zirtu is a new type of user-centric virtualization technology, specifically designed for client-side computing. As a Server-less VDI, it provides all the benefits of centralized computing - with none of the drawbacks.

Zircon Computing developed the zNet software platform and tools to minimise the programming effort of distributing and scaling application business logic. zNet facilitates the development of elastic applications that can be parallelised and distributed across cloud environments.

To increase application developer productivity zNet offers powerful constructs for decomposition and distribution of business logic, as well as implementations of various communication and parallel programming patterns that shield application developers from complex concurrency and networking mechanisms. Applications built using zNet are known as Zircon-enabled applications and are deployed in many public clouds, such as Amazon, GoGrid, Rackspace, and IBM and numerous private clouds throughout the world.

Applications built using zNet are:

  • Distributed and parallelised
  • Scaled elastically
  • Deployment agnostic

Zeus Web Server - Features

Zeus Web Server provides flexible web-based management and integration capabilities, protecting back-end systems and screening attacks against other types of Web servers in a farm. The Zeus Service Protection Policy guards against denial of service attacks and destructive viruses. Security settings across multiple Web sites can be controlled using the online Administration Server. Administrators can purchase Verisign website digital certificates directly from the Zeus interface.

Features include:

  • Zeus Perl Extensions: Perl API support provides compatibility with Apache mod perl: Zeus Perl Extensions allow third-party mod perl applications to run unmodified in the Zeus Web Server and provide a means of creating flexible Web Server extensions in Perl. The Zeus::ModPerl::Registry module can be used to cache and accelerate Perl CGI scripts. Perl handlers can be embedded in SSI-generated pages using the #perl command
  • Grouped Reports Real Time Monitoring: Grouped Reports provide access to common reports from the Real Time Monitoring system such as HTTP status codes, Transfer statistics and CGI reports
  • Bandwidth Throttling: use an add-on module to throttle bandwidth to each user that has been authenticated or to each IP address. Bandwidth accounting information is shared across multiple servers in a cluster
  • Password Protection: an add-on module that monitors the existing authentication mechanism and protects the service against compromise of username and password details and brute force password cracking attempts
  • Third-party Products: enable or disable the Zeus-supplied PHP binary PHP support from a single setting in the UI
  • Service Protection Policy: providing a scalable solution to protect IIS servers from Denial of Service and virus attacks including connection counting and limiting to protect against attempts to overload the Web server or Web application with excessive numbers of HTTP-based requests, request filtering to guard against known HTTP-based attacks and request checking to protect against malformed HTTP requests
  • Management of SSL Client Certificates: SSL policy can be controlled using the central Zeus Administration Server interface. Support for certificate revocation is integrated fully to provide protection against the fraudulent use of lost or stolen encryption keys
  • Dynamic Content Performance: with enhanced performance and robustness of NSAPI and ISAPI applications running on ZWS and improved CGI performance for dynamic content delivery
  • SNMP Support: based on net-snmp 4.2.3 which is not vulnerable to the recently publicised CERT Advisory CA-2002-03. Problems such as Denial Of Service attacks on routers can be identified via the graphical user interface
  • Content Compression: to speed up large downloads and reduce bandwidth usage if the browser is capable of accepting content in this format. Compressed content is retained by the Web server where possible to reduce the overhead associated with performing the compression again
  • Dynamic Content Delivery: in partnership with Zend Technologies
  • Internationalisation: including automatic content and language negotiation for building international sites or to enable non-English speaking administrators to deploy Zeus Web Server
  • Integration: including AJP v13 support, native bindings for Tomcat/Jserv and fast PHP implementation
  • Real-time Monitoring: visualisation tools display Web server and site activity for identifying bottlenecks
  • Request Re-write: re-write URLs on the fly to direct site visitors away from old or broken content or to help Web site re-organisation
  • Web Services-ready: via an optimised core engine for data flowing to the Web server
  • WebDAV support via Zope: providing a set of extensions to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) that facilitates collaborative editing and file management between users located remotely from each other on the Internet
  • User Documentation: complete documentation is available online.

The following platforms are supported:

  • Mac OS X 10.x
  • HP-UX 10.20, 11.0, 11i, IA-64
  • Solaris SPARC 2.6, 7, 8 and 9
