Nearly 9 in 10 enterprises are thinking of leaving Oracle Java. That’s just one finding of the new Azul State of Java survey and report. As a result, the channel opportunity in partnering Azul continues to expand. This is not just about pricing changes but various support options ending, including for Java FX on Oracle JDK 8.
Azul’s findings from 2000 Java professionals include that:
• 88% of those on Oracle Java are considering migration.
• 82% have worries about Oracle Java pricing.
• 99% rely on Java in their software or infrastructures.
• 72% must increase compute consumed to support AI.
• 65% report that at least half of their cloud-compute bill is from Java workloads.

WHY SWITCH TO AZUL PLATFORM PRIME?

Azul’s Java survey highlights the requirement for Java, including for AI. At the same time, Azul Platform Prime is an Oracle Java alternative that can cut infrastructure costs hugely. In some cases, Azul can control cloud costs by slashing them by up to 20% or more.
Another factor is that Azul Platform Prime has been designed for high performance and stability across the Java ecosystem, including for runtimes.
In addition, Oracle ended free support for Java 17 for commercial use in September 2024. In older versions of Java, there have been API issues outside of the core class libraries. And it’s not news that Oracle pricing and licensing changes have made working with the vendor harder for many partners.
But why not just ditch Java completely?
There are myriad reasons.
First of all, Java development continues to innovate, adapt, and lead in the world of software.
Last year alone, Java highlights included:
• New performance and scalability features such as virtual threads and structured
concurrency from Java 21 onwards.
• Increased benefits for developer productivity, including enhanced Visual Studio Code integration.
• Boosted resilience and security with an emphasis on quantum-safe encryption, helping future-proof against cryptographic challenges.
• Enhancements for the world of AI, ML and cloud with increased attention paid to cloud-native integrations, libraries and frameworks (already 50% of survey respondents build their AI out with Java).
• In addition, nearly 70% of respondents said at least 50% of their applications are built with Java or run on a Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

SURVEY SHOWS NEED FOR ORACLE JAVA ALTERNATIVES

Companies struggle to make the best use of their cloud resources. Azul’s Java survey reveals that, for 71% of respondents, more than 20% of their cloud compute capacity remains untapped.
Java TCK-compliant Azul can help organisations reduce over-provisioning. Right-size resources by offloading JIT compilation with the Cloud Native Compiler. In addition, you can serve optimisations sooner than OpenJDK because there’s no need to wait for code to be executed beforehand.
Furthermore, organisations on Azul can enjoy faster warmups with ReadyNow Orchestrator technology, super-scalable JVM – as well as more pause-free transactions with C4 Collector.

And What About Data Privacy?

QBS: With AI, users are understandably concerned about data sharing. How does Nitro protect sensitive information?

Nitro: We get it. That’s why we don’t build or train our own generative AI models. Instead, we use trusted, enterprise-grade tools via Microsoft Azure OpenAI, and your data stays yours. It’s used only for the task you ask it to do, and never stored or shared for training.

So yes, Nitro AI is smart, and it also knows how to keep a secret.

Try Before You Commit: The Nitro Pilot Program

QBS: Exploring new software takes time and trust. What does Nitro offer to help with that?

Nitro: We offer a Pilot Program that gives users full access to Nitro’s features, so users can test it out, experience the AI tools, and see the results firsthand.

And here’s the clincher: 93% of users who join the Pilot end up staying. That’s a sign that once teams experience what Nitro can do, they don’t want to go back.

QBS: That’s impressive. Where can people find out more?

Nitro: If you’re a QBS partner or customer, you can visit our Nitro landing page for all the details, including eligibility and terms for our current one-year free subscription offer.
