Paessler, the creator of PRTG network monitoring and management, has inked two new wireless technology alliances that drive enhancements to Internet of Things (IoT) use cases for everything from building and facilities management to advanced industrial applications.

Paessler has teamed up with the LoRa and mioty Alliances which are set to be key in IoT, in part by strengthening the network of specialists working on IoT requirements. This builds on its current relationship with Sigfox.

"With the new alliances, we can raise the quality of our solutions in the IoT area to an even higher level and offer our customers numerous decisive advantages for their IoT monitoring," explains Helmut Binder, CEO of Paessler.

"Especially in the field of IoT and Industry 4.0, monitoring solutions are needed that support the various standards and make monitoring as easy as possible."

Put simply, Paessler customers will be able to enjoy even simpler, more cost-effective monitoring of status and availability across their increasingly connected environments.

Paessler quickly saw the value of taking its more than 20 years of experience in the monitoring industry and applying that know-how beyond traditional IT to support more organisations managing and driving revenues in an increasingly digitised world.

Whether organisations are simply trying to measure the temperatures and airflow in their facilities or communicate, store and process data at the increasingly intelligent edge of the network, wireless standards and technologies play a critical role.

The LoRa Alliance developed the LoRaWAN certification that enables small data packets to be transmitted over longer distances -- for example, 5G and IoT networks -- and the mioty protocol permits robust, standardised transmission via "telegram splitting" in the license-free spectrum.

The announcements mean Paessler is now working with all key players in the low power, wide area networking (LPWAN) space, tackling three specific challenges:

  • Transporting data from sensors to a network server in the cloud for analysis, wirelessly and often over longer distances
  • Monitoring and securing of coded data across all its transport routes
  • Enabling the decoding, evaluation and display of relevant data wherever and whenever it is needed
