Estate Guardian assists network administration on computers running Microsoft software by organising software upgrades, licencing policy, inventories and general computer monitoring. The administrator provides the business rule that defines the problem and/or solution to the immediate or long-term business needs enabling Estate Guardian to provide the core business functions. All information is reported to the administrator in real time.

Estate Guardian - Features

Estate Guardian assists network administration on computers running Microsoft software by organising software upgrades, licencing policy, inventories and general computer monitoring. The administrator provides the business rule that defines the problem and/or solution to the immediate or long-term business needs enabling Estate Guardian to provide the core business functions. All information is reported to the administrator in real time.

New Features in 6.3 include:

  • Getting Started Tips: a pre-help system for first time users with working examples
  • Fully Integrated Help: including a five minute tutorial and tour that can be accessed from the console
  • Notes Page for Views: comment the business rule to explain the intention of the function
  • EstateGuardian Command: installed separately to define command Tasks and Action scripts and commands in the same way as other tasks
  • Dial up Connections: count and audit the number and type of dial up connection on each computer to determine if non-policy connections can be made to other networks
  • Example Microsoft Access Database: example hardware and software inventory reports in the default Microsoft Access database installation that can be used directly or modified.

Features include:

  • Monitoring: all hardware, software and executing processes on all computers are monitored simultaneously and in real time across the entire estate. The administrator may label any number of computers with any number of labels denoting departments, physical locations etc. Labels are monitored also
  • Business Rules: a simple expression language is provided for the administrator to pose any question to the estate for monitoring purposes producing a table or list of computers that meet the specified criteria
  • Upgrades: the business rule can express that any population of computers can be targeted to receive an industry standard MSI file to roll any software application forward or backward
  • Licence Policy: the business rule can express that any population of computers that exceeds a specified threshold of software installations or actual software executions shall be notified to the administrator in real time
  • Inventory: an ODBC compliant program feeds any ODBC compliant database with any information that can be monitored. The default is Microsoft Access. This includes all hardware and software installed on all computers across the estate. The database is populated with all change events in real time
  • Security: provides data encryption of all Estate Guardian network traffic using AES
  • Efficiency: resources consumed are a very small install footprint, negligible processing load and negligible network overhead. The expression language can be used to reduce or stop specific network traffic when monitoring certain aspects of computers such as processing load, available memory and disk space that change at very high rates.

Estate Guardian - System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT Workstation or Server, 2000 Workstation or Server, XP or Server 2003
  • Microsoft Installer 2
  • Microsoft MMC 1.2 or above for consoles
  • ODBC compliant Database for historical reporting
  • 2 MB available hard disk space on each machine
  • IP Network Card connected to the corporate network
  • All computers must be enrolled cryptographically using a unique customer key.
