It works seamlessly with Novell GroupWise and Microsoft Exchange collaboration servers, and it will connect to Lotus Notes and IBM Notes plug-in for Workplace client technology. It is also fully compatible with Microsoft Active Directory and other networking and directory standards. Hardware Plug-n-Play
New hardware support for USB and Bluetooth provides an intuitive and easy-to-use hot-plug system for peripheral devices. SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop features USB device detection and installation for:

    Security

    As an open source operating system, Linux is inherently more secure than other operating systems. Novell strengthens Linux further by including the AppArmor application-security solution as part of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop. AppArmor creates a firewall around any Linux program and manages applications by preventing unauthorized access. It can easily contain malicious programs and thwart attempted disruptions, including zero-day attacks. As a result, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop is the most secure desktop on the marketregardless of operating system.

    New Features in Version 11

    SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 delivers innovations across the enterprise. The platform contains major enhancements to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and delivers two new extensions SUSE Linux Enterprise Mono Extension, the only product that enables customers to run fully supported Microsoft .NET-based applications on Linux, and SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension, a clustering product that ensures uptime for mission-critical applications while slashing the cost of ownership for high availability. As the operating system for the next-generation IT infrastructure, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 was designed using three core themes: ubiquity, interoperability and mission-critical computing.
    • Productivity and multimedia enhancements
      SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 contains upgraded versions of all key desktop applications. It includes the latest versions of OpenOffice.org (version 3), Mozilla Firefox (version 3), Novell Evolution email and calendaring, and many others. It also features much broader multimedia file support. In addition to playback of MP3 files, you can now playback and create Advanced Audio Coding (aac) files. In addition, through the partnership between Novell and Microsoft, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop now includes built-in support for Microsoft Silverlight and support for Microsoft Windows Media Audio (wma) and Windows Media Video (wmv) files.
    • Green IT capabilities
      SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 delivers a thoroughly green experience. It features new smart power management features including CPU throttling, switching off the hard drive when it is not needed, and dimming the display when the system is idle. It also improves user-controlled action such as sleep and hibernate to minimize power usage. Finally, a new Power History interface makes the green IT experience a visual one. You can now see how your usage is impacting battery life and how the system is adapting to your usage.
    • Nomad remote desktop protocols
      SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 introduces Nomad, a new suite of remote desktop protocols.
