Hyena

Hyena is designed to both simplify and centralise nearly all of the day-to-day management tasks, while providing new capabilities for system administration. This functionality is provided in a single, centralised, easy to use product. Used today by tens of thousands of system administrators worldwide, Hyena is the one tool that every administrator cannot afford to be without.

Hyena uses an Explorer-style interface for all operations, including right mouse click pop-up context menus for all objects. Management of users, groups (both local and global), shares, domains, computers, services, devices, events, files, printers and print jobs, sessions, open files, disk space, user rights, messaging, exporting, job scheduling, processes and printing are all supported. In fact, Hyena can be used on any Windows client to manage any Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016 installation.

• Active Directory Integration: Hyena provides extensive Active Directory (AD) support, with built-in tools for customizable queries, filtering, management of object properties, advanced attribute management, and many other AD administration features.
• Bulk Editing with Active Editor: A tabular-like window which lets you freely move around and modify directory information as easily as if it were in a spreadsheet. The 'Active Editor' also supports importing changes from delimited text files.
• Importing with Active Editor: Supports updating and creating new Active Directory objects from a delimited text file.
• Server Management: Most of Hyena's features are built around server and computer administration. With Hyena's multiple domain management layout and the capability to build custom groups of objects such as servers and printers, Hyena can easily provide access to every aspect of server administration.
• User Management: Hyena allows multiple templates to be configured that can be used to automatically create the user's home directory, optionally share it, plus configure the share and/or NTFS permissions...all automatically. This functionality is available for both standard and Terminal Server home directories.
• Service Monitoring and Control: Hyena can manage services on any number of computers at the same time, plus perform service control and startup changes in mass.
• Event Management: In addition to integration with the Windows native Event Viewer and MMC, Hyena also incorporates its own more powerful event viewing mechanism for network wide event log monitoring, management and reporting.
• Job and Task Scheduling: All versions of Windows have built-in job scheduling systems, designed to run scheduled tasks at predetermined times. Hyena provides easy access to any scheduled job on any Windows server or workstation.
• Printer Management: Hyena was designed to overcome many of these limitations and give system administrators and help desk staff better control over printers and print jobs.
• Disk and File Administration: Disk and file administration, including routine file management, shared resource administration and disk space monitoring, is perhaps the most common task performed by system administrators. Hyena excels in allowing system administrators full control over every disk and file related management task.
• Exchange Administration: Hyena continues offering support for Exchange 2000 through Exchange 2016, on any client operating system up to Windows 10 and for both the x64 and x86
• WMI/Inventory: Hyena leverages WMI by allowing WMI "queries" to be run on one or more computers directly from its GUI interface. Hyena also allows for WMI operations to be performed on the resulting output, providing for an easy mechanism for updating information for multiple computers at the same time.
• Reporting and Exporting: Hyena set the standard for easy exporting and report generation for a wide spectrum of system information.
• Bulk Importing: Hyena's 'Active Task' feature supports bulk/mass updating and creation of new Active Directory objects from a delimited text file. Task settings and options are saved automatically, so repeated updates can be performed with minimal steps. Most directory data types are supported, including text, numeric, true/false, multi-valued and more.

Hyena can be installed on any computer running any of the following operating systems or their variants, ie 'Small Business Edition', R2, etc:

The computer that Hyena is installed on can be running either as a workstation or server. There are two general configurations that Hyena is normally installed under:

Hyena is installed on a workstation running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7/8/10 and is used to manage one or more domains running a Windows 20xx, usually in an Active Directory environment.

or

Hyena is installed on a Windows server or domain controller, and a remote access tool or software (Windows Remote Desktop, VNC, PcAnywhere, RAdmin, Citrix, VMware, etc.) is used to connect to the server and Hyena is run through the remote access session to manage the local server and/or one or more domains.
