Pylon Anywhere - Features

Pylon Anywhere provides access to Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange information including e-mail, calendar, contacts, events, notes and tasks from a wide variety of mobile PDAs and smartphones using cradle synchronisation and/or wireless connections. Users can receive and respond to e-mail information remotely using push, alerts and scheduled synchronisation to simulate a desktop environment. It provides a centrally managed, secure solution for groupware synchronisation with support for handheld devices including Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian, SyncML and WAP-based devices. It is possible to set up users and groups with varying levels of access, scaling to large numbers of users across multiple sites.

Features include:

  • Mobile Access to e-mail: from Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange. Server-based push, interval-based automatic synchronisation, pro-active alerts and real-time browsing. Mobile workers access one mailbox to manage, send, receive, file or delete messages
  • Synchronisation Options: direct, server-based synchronisation with access information offline including compression, check-point restart, wireless communication optimisations, attachment filtering and message truncation. Manage different communication profiles and optimise settings for wireless WAN, wireless LAN or cradle synchronisations. Schedule synchronisation to mimic a permanently-connected device and specify intervals between synchronisations to control power and bandwidth usage. Preview e-mail headers, e-mail size, attachment and truncation status and make decisions as to what to receive
  • e-mail Push: over wired and wireless networks including LAN, Wi-Fi, GPRS and CDMA. Push notifications can be sent to devices using SMS or using a direct connection. Select specific e-mail messages to be pushed to a device by maintaining and customising filters through a Web interface
  • Alerts and Real-Time Browsing: or devices where data storage is not feasible. A Web browser provides access to e-mail and PIM data. e-mails and calendar entries can be pushed via alerts to e-mail or SMS enabled devices. WAP telephones receive an alert that includes the header and a limited amount of body text; the full message can be accessed using the WAP browsing capability
  • Client Capabilities: manage e-mail and PIM information remotely. Forward attachments in the original format from any device. Support for recurring calendar entries and managing time-zone differences. Customise the way that data are synchronised using profile, filter and truncation settings. Access a Global Address List and personal address books
  • Security: all data transmissions between the Pylon Anywhere server and mobile device are encrypted using FIPS 140-2 certified, AES, Triple DES or SSL. Users can be authenticated against a variety of systems including LDAP, Active Directory, Domino and NT Domains
  • Administration: tools are included for managing data and applications that are transferred to the mobile device. Use graphical Wizards to set up the server configuration and place users in groups that determine how they will interact with the system. Log the status and errors of mobile devices to diagnose problems for remote workers
  • Device Management Tools: a systems management add-on that provides remote software installation and upgrade capabilities, device configuration, theft and loss protection, backup and hardware and software asset inventory collection
  • File Synchronisation: an add-on for managing electronic document distribution based on a publish and subscribe model that is integrated into the Pylon Anywhere administration console. Administrators use a GUI Wizard to define the file publications. A server-based scanner detects and replaces outdated files on mobile devices
  • Support for Multiple Devices and Networks: integrate Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian, SyncML, WAP, desktop and SMS devices into an enterprise using existing hardware.
